My Father Could Also Play The Piano

Divided between silences and music, and forgiveness and love, and set amongst the stunning backdrop of the beautiful, rugged, Irish West Coast, this universal story is essentially one of love, with layers of loneliness, poverty, anger, survival, tenderness and hope. It is the story of a lost man’s unrequited love for music that unknowingly became his son’s life-lasting dream.

Based on a true story, the film is woven between two journeys, spread across two different times - one, that of a little boy struggling to escape the hell of his childhood, and the other, of the same boy, now an accomplished musician and composer, struggling to forgive himself and his past in order to return to a home he once escaped.

Howard Barker wrote in his famous play ‘Victory’ that “In the end there is nowhere to go but where you come from...”
